It’s important to read our basic mounting instructions before continuing on. They will help you determine what tools you will need and also about how to mount individual planks, sisal poles, ladders and Escape Hatches.
For this complex you will need five studs spaced out at 16″ from center to center. Start by marking the center of each of the five studs you’re using. Since this complex is rather tall, we suggestion marking multiple areas on each stud up the wall.
The Cat Mod Bunker comes with a single piece of fabric 19 grommets long. It’s easiest to cut your fabric before mounting the planks. Below are the different fabric cuts you will need to create the Cat Mod Bunker.
When cutting the fabric to size, you want to cut 3/4″ from the center of the grommets. This length allows for the fabric to hold tightly in each plank.
Mount a separated plank, centered on the second stud from the right. We suggest mounting the first step 14″-15″ from the floor to make for easy jumping.
Attach the six-grommet-long piece of fabric to the plank so that it’s coming off the right side, and use furniture screws to attach the wooden top so that the fabric is firmly held in place.
Attach the third set of grommets down the fabric to a separated plank. Stretch it up and to the right and mount into the next stud over. Be sure to keep the fabric tight. Replace the plank top.
Attach ladder steps to the two sets of grommets between planks. For more detailed direction on mounting the ladder read our basic mounting instructions.
Detach the Planter top, attach the plank bottom to the last set of grommets and pull to the right. Mark position with a pencil and then mount the plank. Reattach the planter top.
Next, remove the plank bottoms from the Escape Hatch and mount one 11.5” up from the plank at the top of the ladder.
Mount the next plank, using the Escape Hatch to line it up. For step-by-step directions on this see our basic mounting instructions.
Attach the five-grommet-long section of fabric to the left plank of the shelf before mounting the shelf top into place.
Detach the top from the feeder, attach the plank bottom to the last set of grommets, and pull to the left. Mark the position with a pencil and then mount the plank. Reattach the feeder top.
Detach the plank tops from the sisal pole. This part should be done with a second person. Hold the pole to the left with the fabric attached to the bottom plank, while your helper makes sure it’s level and marks the position with a pencil. For detailed installations to mount the pole, see our basic mounting instructions.
Attach a plank bottom to the last set of grommets and pull to the right. Mark position with a pencil and then mount the plank. Reattach the plank top.
Use another plank bottom and mount it 11.5” directly up from the previously mounted Feeder.
Attach the last section of fabric to the plank you just mounted, and reattach the plank top. Use the last plank with the last set of grommets and pull to the right. Use level to make sure it’s perfectly straight. Mark position with a pencil and then mount the plank. Replace the plank top.
