Description

The Cat Bridge is the perfect addition to any cat climbing wall. It’s our very first creation and the product that launched the company. It can be installed on its own across the wall, but we suggest installing it over a window or doorway so your cat can keep an eye on their surroundings while being up high in a safe space. Cats love to sleep in the bridge because they’re held securely by the railings while the slats flex to support their bodies. You can incorporate the Bridge as a part of a full setup or as a way to cross through gaps in your cat wall.

  • The 34″ Bridge spans 3 studs at 16″ apart.
  • The 50″ Bridge spans 4 studs at 16″ apart or 2 studs spaced 24” apart.
  • The 66″ Bridge spans 5 studs at 16″ apart.

This is our 3rd generation of the cat bridge and it’s seen many improvements over the last 10 years. Our latest version is made from solid, sustainable bamboo and our strongest cat bridge to date, passing a weight test of 85 lbs on each mounting plank and 65 lbs across the bridge span. The design is also fully modular so you can connect the bridge together with the other wall furniture like Cat Shelves, Feeders or Cat Hammocks to expand your cat’s space.

Are your studs 24″ apart?

Most of our products are designed to mount into studs at 16″ apart on-center, but we have options for 24” stud spacing as well. For the cat bridge, you would need to go with the 50” version. Or the 66” version with one end of the bridge elevated to reach a wall stud.

Why Include the Cat Bridge on Your Cat Climbing Wall?

cat wall with cats playing

When building a cat climbing wall, a Cat Bridge can expand the limits on where you’re able to build. For instance, there are often times when you need to continue a route through a gap like a window or doorway and this in when a Cat Bridge can be essential. Those two locations happen to be where most cats prefer to lounge, making the Cat Wall Bridge an excellent option.

With recent design changes, you’re now able to combine with the slotted shelf to run a bridge perpendicularly from the wall, which adds options like continuing your cat wall around a corner or through a door way and continuing the route along an opposing wall.

With the three different span options you have an added amount of freedom for where you run the bridge, and we often take custom orders for lengths if it’s not during a rush. If you’re interested in placing a custom order please contact us and we can walk you through the process.

Cat Bridge Benefits: Promote your Cat's Health and Well-being

A cat wall bridge can provide numerous benefits for your feline friend. It creates a perfect area for your cat to observe and lounge from above, which encourages them to climb up and down, keeping them active and healthy. Providing this type of vertical enrichment also helps with stress and anxiety by providing a safe and exciting environment for cats to play, explore, and relax.

Utilizing vertical space in your home with a cat bridge can be especially beneficial if you live in a small apartment or have limited space for your cat to play. When a cat lays on the mounted cat bridge, the slats form around their body, creating a comfortable space to lounge. The bridge rope offers support from the side for your cat to brace their paws and makes the destination more safe and secure for a comfortable nap.

Bridge Walkway Lengths Explained

The Cat Bridge is designed to be installed between studs spaced 16” apart. There are ways you can mount them to fit studs when the bridge ends don’t line up, like raising one side higher than the other. If you’re interested in adding a shelf or hammock to the ends, we also offer the Bridge w/ Landings and Bridge w/ Lounges.

We also offer custom Bridge lengths, but that depends on how heavy of a workload we have in the shop, and we typically don’t offer this between October and January. If it’s outside that time-frame and you’re interested in having a bridge made to fit a custom space, please contact us via email or chat and we can walk you through the process of taking measurements.

bridge lengths

34” Cat Bridge
This is our basic version and is made with a 32” stud-to-stud measurement, to be installed between three studs spaced 16” apart on center.

50” Cat Bridge
This version of the Bridge has been popular because the Bridge length (48” stud-to-stud) works with either 16” or 24” spaced wall studs.

  • 24” spacing – 3 studs
  • 16” spacing – 4 studs

66” Cat Bridge
The 66” version is the longest option we offer without having a custom length built. It has plenty of space for cats. This can be a great option for windows, because studs tend to be off their normal distance near windows and this version can extend past those on either side. It’s 64” stud-to-stud length can be mounted along five 16” spaced wall studs.

Cat Bridge Design Ideas

The Cat Bridge is modular, allowing them to be connected in many different ways including along walls, around corners, though doorways, windows, or connected perpendicularly from walls.

10 Years of Cat Bridge Testing

We launched the Cat Bridge in 2013, and it’s currently on its fourth version. Over the last 10 years, we’ve had various alterations of the bridges mounted through our house to see how cats use it on a daily basis. Every couple of years we take feedback from both our cats and our customers to make adjustments to optimize the bridge lounging experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

This has been one of our most popular products since we started making and selling cat furniture. We have found that cats typically LOVE their Cat Bridges.

Shy cats may be hesitant initially when walking on the bridge slats because of the surface moving as they walk. If this is the case, we highly recommend not placing your cat on the bridge by hand, and instead using positive reinforcements like treats, toys, or petting to warm your cat up to their new cat bridge.

Cat Bridges can be installed into sturdy surfaces like brick, cement, or drywall.

Drywall – If are installing into drywall, it’s important to use a stud finder to first locate your wall studs. This version of the cat bridge is attached to a mounting plank on either side. For instructions on how to find your wall studs and install a mounting plank, here’s a video demonstrating that.

Most cats are social, so living rooms are often a great option. But every cat is different and some are shy, so a good rule is to install the cat climbing wall in a room your cat currently hangs out in. Windows and hallways are also always terrific choices when it comes to the Cat Bridge.

We’ve tried a few different types of wood to create the frame over the years. We really liked soft pine, but found that although it was nice, cats’ claws could sink into the wood, and the parts would quickly become damaged and warn looking. The pine also had an issue with warping with low humidity during the winter.

Eventually, we switched to sustainable bamboo. The material is incredibly strong, so it can be hold a huge amount of weight and also holds up well to wear and tear over time. After a rough finish on the top side of the furniture, it gives excellent traction for cats to feel secure up on their cat wall.

As far as the depth that the bridge extends from the wall, the platforms are 11” wide and the bridge walkway is around 7”. We’ve changed this width over the years and are very happy with this width because it allows most cats to turn around on the bridge, while not being too wide, so that the ropes still hold cats for snug naps.

Since all cats are different, this really depends on the cat wall climber. If you have a cat that’s fit and agile, you can go up relatively high on the wall.  If your cat has issues with getting around, or is elderly, we suggest mounting lower to the floor.
