Cannonsville Critters

Cannonsville Critters was started by Michelle and her husband Tom in 2013. They’re a no-kill 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to finding forever homes for cats. They strive to reduce overpopulation and bring down the euthanization rate of kitties across Montcalm County and surrounding areas. Over the past eight years, the shelter has adopted out over 3,200 cats.

Huge thanks to the crew from Cannonsville Critters for coming in for a couple of shoots. They work with a group of 15 volunteers who help care for the cats and also foster some in their homes. Everybody we’ve come into contact from there has been incredible to work with, and we urge you to check them out on social media or, even better, to bring a cat home.

They’re always in need of volunteers and fosters, so if you live in the area, please reach out to them at cannonsvillecritters@yahoo.com.

Our latest shoot with all black cats

We were thrilled to hear the shelter had an abundance of black cats and thought it would be fun to do some Halloween pictures. (We’re in the process of photoshopping bat wings.) They brought 11 black cats over and it was an absolute blast. There are many reasons to adopt a black cat from a shelter, but here are a few:

  • Black cats are only adopted half as often as other cats in shelters.
  • Superstitions have created a false narrative that black cats are bad luck.
  • Black cats are often overlooked because they can be difficult to photograph for adoption pictures.
